The Underdogs: Characters I Wanted to See More

13 Dec

While there have been numerous guest stars on The Office throughout the past nine seasons, some have been more memorable than others. To start with, one of my most favored guest stars is David Wallace. My favorite thing about David is his calm and simple demeanor. This always presented a hilarious contrast in situations involving the silly Michael Scott. David, a smart, successful CFO at Dunder Mifflin is generally well-liked. One of my favorite David moments is from season 5’s “The Duel” when he invites Micheal to the corporate office in order to find out how his branch is so successful. David’s reaction to Michael’s silly strings of advice and chatter are priceless. Overall, any episode with the addition of David Wallace was always a nice surprise and only added to the humor.

Danny CordrayUnderdog #2 is Danny Cordray, played by Timothy Olyphant. Many viewers will recognize Olyphant from the popular TV show entitled Damages. When Jim was dating Karen Filipelli during season 3, Pam supposedly went on a couple of dates with Danny but he did not show a continued interest in her. When he is later hired at Dunder Mifflin in season 7, his presence at first is uncomfortable for both Jim and Pam. In the end, Danny just strengthens Jim and Pam’s marriage. Danny was a funny character to me because he was sarcastic and different from any other character in the Scranton office. I guess it doesn’t hurt that he is easy on the eyes too!

Mose Schrute #3 is Mose Schrute, played by Michael Schur. Mose is Dwight’s cousin who helps him run the beet farm along with Dwight’s other ridiculous tasks. Mose is a very quirky character for a number of reasons. First, for the longest time I thought Mose was mute, as he barely ever talked.  He also has a tendency to hide behind things when a lot of people are around. Mose has appeared in seasons 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8. My favorite Mose moment, however short and simple, is from season 7’s “Dwight K. Schrute, Acting Manager”, when Dwight is briefly appointed the manager position. When he calls to tell Mose the news over the phone, all viewers can hear is a shrill, insane sounding scream. I continue to laugh so hard every time I watch this part.
